Holiday Pop Up Shop and Seasonal Brand Activations

A holiday pop up shop puts a branded vehicle in a shopping district during the weeks when foot traffic is highest and people are already in a buying mood, serving something warm, gifting something small, and sending visitors into the store or the site. Food Truck Promotions designs, builds, permits, and runs holiday pop ups on vehicles we own, and because December permits in shopping districts go first, we book them eight to twelve weeks out.

A Holiday Pop Up in Practice

A Nordic coffee shop that toured Nespresso boutiques for the holidays

For its first national mobile tour, Nespresso wanted holiday shoppers to slow down, taste the season's coffees, and walk into the boutique. We converted a vintage E-tuk into a dual mobile showroom and coffee shop with a Nordic holiday look and parked it in front of or near Nespresso boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami, offering complimentary tastings of three limited-edition holiday flavors and giveaways. The machines on display were the sampling equipment, so the demo and the drink were the same thing.

What to Know Before You Brief Us

Lead time
Eight to twelve weeks, which means a December pop up is briefed in September. Shopping district permits are the first to go and we cannot create more of them.
Weather
Snow, wind, and dark by 4:30 pm change the build: heating, lighting, and a windbreak for the queue. We design for the December street, not the rendering.
Peak days
Black Friday weekend, the two weekends before Christmas, and the week between Christmas and New Year carry most of the traffic. We schedule the days, not just the weeks.
What changes the price
Peak-date permit fees, days on site across the peak weekends, heating and lighting, and gifting stock. A hot chocolate cart outside your own store is the efficient route.
What we will say no to
A December date briefed in November. We will tell you what is still possible and propose January, which has its own quieter advantages.

Holiday Pop Up FAQs

What is a holiday pop up shop?

A holiday pop up shop is a branded vehicle placed in a shopping district during the peak weeks of November and December, serving something warm, gifting something small, and sending visitors into the store or the site. It reaches shoppers who are already out and already buying, which is the most valuable foot traffic of the year.

When should we book a holiday pop up?

By September for a December activation. Permits in shopping districts for Black Friday weekend and the two weekends before Christmas are the first to go in every city, and custom builds add roughly three weeks on top of the permit timeline. A holiday pop up briefed in November is usually a January pop up.

Which dates matter most for a holiday pop up?

Black Friday weekend, the two weekends before Christmas, and the week between Christmas and New Year carry most of the shopping traffic. A weekday in early December can be quiet. We schedule the specific days rather than the weeks, and we recommend fewer days on the peak dates over more days spread thin.

What do holiday pop ups usually serve or give away?

Hot chocolate, coffee, and cider are the most common because a warm drink forms a queue in December on its own. Gifting is a sample, a mini, or a gift card with a redemption code so the visit continues at the register. The cup and the gift are designed with the wrap so the brand is in every photo.

How does cold weather affect a holiday activation?

It changes the build. Heating for the crew, lighting for a street that is dark by late afternoon, a windbreak for the queue, and a serve that moves fast enough that nobody waits long in the cold. We design the vehicle and the staffing for the December street rather than for the rendering.
